Here are the African teams that have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far, and the teams still in strong contention (with good chances) along with what they need.
✅ African Teams Already Qualified
1. Morocco — won their group.
2. Tunisia — won their group.
3. Egypt — won their group.
4. Algeria — won their group.
⚠️ Teams Still in Contention
These teams haven’t qualified yet but have a good chance, depending on results in their remaining games:
GROUP C
BENIN: They currently lead Group C. If they win their remaining match(es), they can qualify directly.
SOUTH AFRICA: They slipped after losing points for using an ineligible player, but still have a shot if they win their last match and results go their way.
NIGERIA: Must win their remaining fixtures to keep hopes alive and hope for a slip-up from South Africa
GROUP F
IVORY COAST: Leading their group, just needing strong performance in final games. Gabon close behind.
GABON: Could overtake Ivory Coast with wins and slip-ups from Ivory Coast.
GROUP D
CAPE VERDE: Very close; one more win could give them historic qualification.
CAMEROUN: Have to win their Last Game and Hope for a slip-up from Cape Verde
